Skyyler Barnes is a 21 year old pianist currently attending Fresno City College studying piano under Dr. Brandon Bascom. He has been the college’s Music Theory and Ear Training tutor for nearly a year, and is a member of the Fresno collegiate chapter of the Music Teaching National Association. Skyyler presented alongside a few of his collegiate chapter members at the 2022 CAPMT conference in Cerritos, CA and recently attended the National MTNA Conference in Reno, NV. He is currently working on his degree and plans to transfer to pursue composition. 

 

Note From The Teacher

When I began pursuing music, I remember distinctly the magical feeling I experienced of first learning how to create art. It is my ultimate goal, as a teacher, to help my students develop a natural love and curiosity for music that will stay with them throughout their artistic journey. I started piano when I was 13, and began composing in 2020. Since then, I’ve shifted my career focus from piano performance to writing my own music, and I am more than happy to assist any student that is interested in creating music of their own. Being a music theory tutor, I deeply value the importance of a firm understanding of music theory, as it cements the relationship between the student and the art.
